Tiwasunge (tee-wa-soon-ga) HIV/AIDS Nourishing and Counseling Community in Blantyre, Malawi
Tiwasunge is a community of 75 persons infected with HIV/AIDS who live in the same neighborhood of Blantyre. This community of men, women and children care for one another, addressing medical, emotional and spiritual needs. They also provide home-based care for other HIV+ persons in the area and serve 80 children orphaned by AIDS, some who are HIV+ themselves.
In Malawi, approximately 2.5 million people are HIV+. Each year, nearly 900,000 die from the disease. HIV/AIDS is, by many counts, the single largest health crisis facing the country. Jeff Oliver and Pray With Africa have joined in community with Tiwasunge to assist them in sustainable projects that will provide funds to help them purchase necessary medicines and supplies to combat this disease, send children to school and continue their work to stop the spread of the virus.
